RESEARCH INTERESTS
I am Senior Lecturer in Analytical Chemistry within the School of Pharmacy and Biomolecular Sciences. I have an established record in electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) spectroscopy. On the recent move to LJMU my research will include further analytical techniques such as nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) and mass spectroscopy as well as keeping strong links to the National EPR service. The Fielding group’s research is wide-ranging and problem driven.

Drug Interactions
A prime focus is using EPR and other spectroscopic techniques to measure drug interactions. A recent example can be found here: DOI: 10.1002/chem.201605099

Surface Interactions
Excitingly, we have developed a new synthetic strategy that uses spin labels to link biofunctional groups to surfaces: http://dx.doi.org/10.1002/anie.201703929

Structural Biology
We apply the latest EPR techniques to structural, mechanistic and kinetic questions concerning flavins, cytochromes, kinases and phosphatases. A good example of our work using double electron electron resonance (DEER) can be found here: http://dx.doi.org/10.1016/j.str.2016.10.006
Other expertise includes UV-vis stopped flow and rapid freeze-quench.

Materials Science
We have a number of collaborations concerning novel materials. We have recently worked on the surface chemistry of MoS2 using EPR: http://dx.doi.org/10.1021/acs.chemmater.7b01245
