Elaine is an LJMU alumnus, having graduated with a BSc (Honours) in Applied Biochemistry. She went on to complete a PhD at the University of Liverpool, before returning to LJMU as a Senior Lecturer in the Faculty of Science in 2005.

She is currently the Biosciences Subject Leader in the School of Biological and Environmental Sciences and, since 2018, has held the role of Associate Dean Global Engagement in the Faculty of Science.

Elaine is passionate about the student experience and EDI. She has led on various student experience enhancement initiatives, including development of the original Continuous Monitoring and Enhancement process. Elaine also led the Organisation and Culture Sub-Group for the School of Biological and Environmental Sciences successful Athena SWAN Bronze submission.
