About the Group
q:LJMU was established to provide an inter-disciplinary space for LJMU staff and research degree students interested in research with Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, Intersex, and Asexual (LGBTQIA+) people and communities to come together to support research activities, discussion and collaboration.
Our aim is to help share, promote and disseminate LGBTQIA+ related research at LJMU, through events to support the development and dissemination of inter-disciplinary LGBTQIA+ related research. We also work to connect academics with the relevant research interests and to support LGBTQIA+ inclusion in research.
We are here to act as a focal point for LGBTQIA+ related research across the university and to identify and facilitate opportunities for future collaborations, projects, funding applications and publications.
Research themes
Current and recent research by members of q:LJMU is focused around:
- prejudice and violence towards LGBTQIA+ people
- sexual behaviour and sexual health in LGBTQIA+ communities
- the use of drugs, including alcohol and nicotine, in LGBTQIA+ communities
- menstruation and menstrual normativities including LGBTQIA+ menstruation and the representation of menstrual life cycles in art and visual cultures
- examining forensic and investigative trends for transgender homicides
- LGBTQIA+ health inequalities
- improving health and care services for LGBTQIA+ communities
