This course is for those either already working in or those seeking to work in digital content creation.
It will provide an opportunity for students to manage a substantial multi-platform team project; to apply a range of relevant interpersonal, team, networking, and project management skills and to contribute to the enhancement of team performance in contexts of varying complexity
This course will prepare students to manage creative projects using industry standard tools and techniques, equipping them for project management roles in the digital content industry.
The main content of this course will be focused on the process of responding to a live industry brief and preparing a pitch.
You will use professional project management (Agile) methods to manage the project, assisted by industry standard project management tools. Agile working methods will be used to help develop your leadership skills, people management skills, and emotional intelligence. You will plan a project, working to a defined brief, from the beginning through to a client pitch. Course content may include, but is not limited to, the development of:
- Project management skills and processes
- Brand guidelines
- Finance and budgeting
- Developing leadership skills
- Identifying their individual strengths & weaknesses
- The identification of strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats for the client
- Managing risks and change
- Development and justification of the different approaches proposed
Teaching and learning
Using a hybrid approach, teaching will take place online as well as face to face and will feature guest speakers from industry. The course will commence with an introduction to the creative industries by industry guests, who will provide an overview of their industry, and what key skills you will need to develop to enable you to be successful within the creative industries. As the course progresses you will be supported with a series of asynchronous online lectures that will introduce you to key concepts in the following areas: project management skills, processes and methods; brand guidelines; managing finance and budgeting; developing leadership skills; identifying strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats; scheduling, managing risks and change, and planning for production. Face to face workshops will develop skills and knowledge and online tutorials and seminars will keep your work on track and provide opportunities to discuss the asynchronous materials. You will be set a brief by industry to undertake a multi-platform project within a team. You will be supported to work as a team and produce a pitch in response to the brief by relevant and timely seminar sessions, as well as a program of weekly management sessions to ensure that all members of the team are meeting their targets. You will work with industry standard project management tools to effectively manage the project from client brief through to the final pitch.As the project progresses, you will be required to handle changes and risk to the original brief, such as adjustments in the budget, or the addition of different media forms etc. Other bite-sized briefs may also be presented to the you at different times, to mimic common working expectations in the creative industries.Industry professionals will be involved in coaching or mentoring through different parts of the creative project. This will allow you to develop your understanding of the creative process and the operational practices of industry.You will maintain a project management log throughout the project that should be available for review by the lecturing staff and client for formative assessment and feedback. The project log will be signed off at the end of the course and used for assessment.At the end of the course, working in your group, you will pitch your response to the brief.
GCSEs and equivalents
Prior to starting the programme applicants must have obtained grade 4 or grade C or above in English Language and Mathematics GCSE or an approved alternative qualification:
- Key Skills Level 2 in English/ Maths
- NVQ Level 2 Functional skills in Maths and English Writing and or Reading
- Skills for Life Level 2 in Numeracy/English
- Higher Diploma in Maths/ English
- Functional skills Level 2 in Maths/ English
- Northern Ireland Essential Skills Level 2 in communication or Application of Number
- Wales Essential Skills Level 2 in Communication or Application of Number
104 UCAS points from a minimum of 2 A Levels. Maximum of 20 AS points accepted.
BTEC National Diploma 104 UCAS Tariff points.
At least 9 Distinctions and 36 Merits or any other combination that equates to 104 UCAS tariff points in a relevant subject
24 IB points
Irish Leaving Certificate 104 UCAS tariff points. Maximum of 20 UCAS tariff points at Ordinary Level
Alternative qualifications considered
Mature entry - applications are welcomed from mature and non-standard applicants who will be considered on an individual basis. These applicants may be required to submit an essay and/or attend an interview and should demonstrate potential and motivation and/or have relevant experience.

This Continuing Professional Development can be studied within the MSc Advanced Healthcare Practice (Clinical) award framework or as a single CPD.
