CPD Content Creation Graphics and Visualisation
Course aim
This course is for those either already working in or those seeking to work in digital content creation.
This course will develop your understanding of the knowledge and skills required for professional content creation. At the end of the course, you will be able to apply effective techniques, and will have developed practical skills, in written, image, video, and audio content production for a range of audiences and contexts.
You will also be able to analyse and evaluate process and your own personal capabilities.
Course content

You will be given the opportunity to develop key production skills and practices using industry standard software and techniques. You will develop an understanding of the different roles and skills used within design and media production teams.
At the start of the course, you will have access to a series of asynchronous lectures and exercises to facilitate your learning of the essential principles, concepts, theoretical frameworks, techniques, and practices used in the creation of media content. Each key skill will be explored in a series of seminars and workshop sessions. You will be able to develop a range of production skills working within different teams on different briefs, while also having the opportunity to develop skills in one specialist area, such as graphic design, or copywriting. Once you have been given the opportunity to develop your knowledge and a range of broad practical skills, you will conduct a skills audit. Following the skills audit you will be assigned a negotiated production role and placed into a multi-skilled team. These teams will then work on an industry-based brief in a condensed two-day design sprint workshop to help you to refine and perfect your skills. In your team you will present your response to the brief to a panel, as if to a client. Course content may include, but is not limited to, the development of:
- Written and visual communication skills
- Brand guidelines
- The use of tone of voice
- How to approach and understand the needs of different target audiences
- Development of graphic and visual communication production skills using industry standard software
- Storytelling techniques
- Presentation skills
Teaching and learning
Using a hybrid approach, teaching will take place online as well as face to face and will feature guest speakers from industry.
You will be supported through a series of asynchronous lectures and hybrid seminar sessions to develop an understanding of key principles, concepts, and theoretical frameworks, and through short, practical workshops to develop digital production skills using industry standard software.
Formative feedback will be given during tutorial and seminar sessions by lecturers, peers and industry professionals, to help you to understand your personal strengths and weaknesses, and to help you to improve your working practices. The course will commence with an introduction to the creative industries by industry guests who will provide an overview of their industry, and what key skills you will need to develop to enable you to be successful within their industry. You will be expected to practice the production skills demonstrated in lectures in your own time.

Prior to starting the programme applicants must have obtained grade 4 or grade C or above in English Language and Mathematics GCSE or an approved alternative qualification:
- Key Skills Level 2 in English/ Maths
- NVQ Level 2 Functional skills in Maths and English Writing and or Reading
- Skills for Life Level 2 in Numeracy/English
- Higher Diploma in Maths/ English
- Functional skills Level 2 in Maths/ English
- Northern Ireland Essential Skills Level 2 in communication or Application of Number
- Wales Essential Skills Level 2 in Communication or Application of Number

Alternative qualifications considered
Applications are welcomed from mature and non-standard applicants who will be considered on an individual basis. These applicants may be required to submit an essay and/or attend an interview and should demonstrate potential and motivation and/or have relevant experience.

Assessment
There will be two assessment tasks.
- An individual portfolio of short tasks and exercises
- A team presentation in answer to an industry set brief.

This Continuing Professional Development is stand-alone and is not within a wider award framework.
