Race & Racism Webinar Series:

As part of the Challenging Racism Collaborative Campaign, there will be an opportunity for staff to attend three 90min online webinars on the subject of race and racism, delivered by Inclusive Employers.

Webinar 1: The History of Race in the UK (2nd February 2021 - 10am)

Join us for this webinar looking at the history of race in the UK, including the UKs role in enslavement, the British Empire and the impact this legacy has had on the present day. We will be looking at:

  • A brief history of how and when Black people came to the UK; their experiences and rights
  • The effect of Britain’s history on today’s inequality
  • Why it’s important to understand Black British history

Webinar 2: White Privilege – What is it and how does it affect society? (18th March 2021- 12pm)

This webinar will discuss white privilege and privilege more broadly, incorporating how it affects our perspectives and behaviours. Some of the subjects we will cover are:

  • How does white privilege affect white and non-white people?
  • What can we do to change the privilege and power structures?
  • Inclusive actions we can all take in knowledge of the privileges we may hold

Webinar 3: Let’s Talk About Race (19th April 2021 - 1pm)

In our final webinar of the series we’ll be looking at why talking about race is difficult and why silence is so damaging to all of us. We will look at:

  • Why we need to talk about race and the impact of silence on Black, Asian and ethnic minority people
  • Discuss what we can all do to encourage and improve conversations around race
  • Language and saying the ‘wrong’ thing
  • Top tips for starting conversations about race
