I started my nurse career as a student nurse in 1990, completing my RGN and registering in November 1993. After working for a year on an acute GI ward I then worked at Alder Hey from 1994 until 2000. During this period I was able to do my Dip HE and complete the Modified Children's Branch, registering as a RN Child in 1998. I helped to care for children attending with a range of conditions on a General Medical ward, as well as children with Cystic Fibrosis and Diabetes (Type 1). I also spent some time within the Burns unit and on the Intensive Care department. From 2000 until 2006 I worked within a Hospital at Home team, before being fortunate enough to be seconded to an Advanced Practice MSc. Following this I worked within a Paediatric Assessment Unit/A&E before embarking on my academic career.

My areas of interest are of course Paediatrics, emergency care, skills development, advanced practice and also the philosophy of the Social sciences and research
