Phil is a Reader in Student Engagement based in the Teaching & Learning Academy. He is programme leader for the MA Academic Practice and to provide general oversight to academic practice, the access and participation plan and technology enhanced learning. Prior to this role, Phil was Interim Director of the School of Nursing & Allied Health and has been Associate Dean (Education) for the Faculty of Education, Health & Community.
Phil's research interests focus on student engagement, with specific reference to how students can participate in the university's decision-making processes. He has a lead role in the development of student engagement in LJMU and chairs the institutional Student Engagement Panel.
Phil is a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and in 2015 was recognised as a National Teaching Fellow.
