    Research within the Contexts of Human Evolution Group involves archaeological, palaeontological and environmental analyses of human evolution. Our research focuses on mammalian evolution, hominin behaviour and ecology, and patterns of faunal and floral distribution.   2. Forensic anthropology

    The Forensic anthropology group is committed to the development of protocols and guidelines to increase the reliability of the recovery, documentation and analysis of human remains. We provide casework consultancy for forensic anthropological analysis, facial approximation and mass grave excavation.   5. Alcohol

    At the Public Health Institute we look into alchohol consumption and harm across a range of populations and environments. We take up original research and study established datasets to understand the impacts of alcohol on society.

  6. Population health

    The Public Health Institute provides the expertise to inform the delivery and development of interventions and services to those programmes that address food, physical activity, women's health, health of refugees and asylum seekers, mental health and employment.

  7. Tobacco

    The Public Health Institute investigates interventions with the aim of reducing tobacco use. We look at the relationship between smoking behaviours and demographics, income, parental smoking, leisure activities and alcohol consumption.

  8. Drugs

    Public Health Institute provides insight into drug use. We support evidence based drugs policy through epidemiology, monitoring, evidence review, intervention evalution and research.

  9. Intelligence and surveillance

    The Public Health Institute's data collection and monitoring systems support public health reporting. Our surveillance systems include: Integrated Monitoring System, Trauma and Injury Intelligence Group, HIV Surveillance and the Drug Interventions Programme.

  10. The Vaccine Lounge: Bridging Hesitancy and Innovation in Vaccine Policy

    The Vaccine Lounge: Bridging Hesitancy and Innovation in Vaccine Policy project will strengthen international collaboration between researchers and policymakers in the UK, Uganda, Kenya, and Burkina Faso to address pressing challenges in vaccine development and uptake, with a focus on emerging mRNA technologies.
