Read our FAQ to learn more about what our campus tours have to offer, how it works on the day and the measures we have put in place to keep the university COVID-secure.

About campus tours

How does a campus tour work?

Our campus tours allow you and up to four guests (from the same household or support bubble) to explore our superb campus facilities and see first-hand what LJMU has to offer.

You will get the chance to take a tour of either our City Campus or Mount Pleasant Campus.

Your tour will be led by a student tour guide who can answer any questions you may have about the university and student life.

The tour itself will not be course-specific, but it will provide an excellent overview of our general campus facilities.

Please note that the buildings in operation are limited due to COVID-19. This means that your tour group will not be able to view the inside of all buildings.

What dates and times are available?

We offer a range of dates and times, and they are available on a first come, first served basis. Visit your LJMU applicant area to book a time and date to suit you.

Where will the tours take place?

You will have the opportunity to take a tour of our City Campus or Mount Pleasant Campus.

The meeting point for City Campus is the James Parsons Building and the meeting point for the Mount Pleasant Campus is the Redmonds Building.

We will email you ahead of the event to confirm the date and time of your campus tour, and also your meeting point.

How long does a campus tour take?

The tour will take 45 – 60 minutes.

Can I see course-specific facilities?

The campus tour won’t be course-specific, but it will provide an excellent overview of our general campus facilities.

Can I view the accommodation?

A tour of the accommodation isn’t included in the campus tour.

To view the accommodation, you will need to book a separate tour by getting in touch with your chosen accommodation provider who will do their best to fit an accommodation tour around your campus tour.

Can I visit the library?

Yes, a short tour of the general library facilities is included in your campus tour.

Your tour group

Will there be other applicants in my tour group?

You will be provided with an individual tour guide. This means that no other applicants will be in your tour group.

Groups will be kept to a maximum of six. This includes you and your tour guide, plus up to four guests from the same household or support bubble.

Will the tour be led by a student studying the same course as me?

The student tour guide will be a current LJMU student. They may not be studying the same course as you, but they will have good general knowledge of the university and student life.

How to get there

Where is the meeting point for my campus tour?

The meeting point for City Campus is the James Parsons Building and the meeting point for the Mount Pleasant Campus is the Redmonds Building.

Mount Pleasant Campus

While there is no onsite parking at the university, there are plenty of car parking* options in the immediate area within easy walking distance.

There is a car park located at Mount Pleasant and Brownlow Hill.

City Campus

Onsite parking is for permit holders only. Visit the links above to find the most convenient car parking* options within the area. The NCP car parks on Pall Mall and Moorfields are a short walk from our City Campus.

*Please make sure to check the closing time for any car parks you are thinking of using on the day.

Where is the nearest train station?

Both the Mount Pleasant Campus and the City Campus are within walking distance from Liverpool Lime Street.

On the day

What time do I need to arrive for my campus tour?

We will email you ahead of the event to confirm the date and time of your campus tour.

You will need to arrive at this time and the tour will then depart approximately 15 minutes later.

Our campus tours have staggered arrival times to avoid congestion. Please stick to your arrival time the best you can to help with the flow of visitors and social distancing.

Will I be able to meet staff and students, and find out more about student services e.g. accommodation, finance, student support?

Only a limited number of staff and students will be available on the day, but they are more than happy to answer any general questions you may have about life at LJMU.

Will there be refreshments available?

We are sorry to let you know that refreshments won’t be provided on the day in order to minimise transmission, but you can bring your own.

Will there be toilet facilities?

Yes, toilets will be available along with hand sanitising facilities.

Can I use the lifts?

The tour will involve walking inside and between buildings. It is important that your tour group sticks to the route led by the student tour guide and that you utilise any one-way systems.

Stairs are encouraged where possible for social distancing, however lifts can be used where required.

Can I pick up any printed guides?

We won’t be providing any printed guides. However, online versions of our Accommodation and Fees and Funding guides are available to view on LJMU On Demand.

Staying COVID-secure

How many guests can I bring to the campus tour?

You can bring up to four guests, but they must be from the same household or support bubble.

Do I need to take a COVID test ahead of the campus tour?

Yes. You and your guests must provide evidence upon arrival of having had a negative COVID test 24 hours prior to attending. Those who do not provide this evidence will not be able to join the tour.

Even if you have had two doses of the vaccination, evidence of a negative test within 24 hours prior to attending is essential.

Can I use a PCR or lateral flow test?

Either type of negative test is OK, but you will be required to provide proof via an NHS email or text message.

How do I get a free lateral flow test to check if I have COVID?

If you or your family/support bubble cannot get a test via your school or college, you can order rapid lateral flow tests to be sent to your home.

Will all of my family/ support bubble attending a tour require proof of a negative test?

Yes, everyone attending a tour will require proof of a negative test.

How do I provide evidence of my COVID test?

You will need to show an email or text message from the NHS.  You will be sent this automatically after a PCR test.  You will need to report a lateral flow test result on the government website using the code or barcode on the test strip.  Once you have completed the online form, you will receive an NHS email and text to use as proof.

Please be aware we cannot use a photo of the test strip as proof of a negative test.

Will I or my family/support bubble be able to attend the tour if we do not have proof of a negative result?

Unfortunately, we will not allow entry to anyone who is unable to provide an NHS email or text message showing proof of a negative result.

When do I need to take my test?

You will need to take your test within 24 hours of the tour. We will not be able to accept tests taken more than 24 hours before the tour.

What measures are in place to help ensure that the campus tour is COVID-secure?

We have taken steps to make our campus COVID-secure for all visitors. These include enhanced cleaning, hand sanitising stations, one-way systems, and floor markings/signage to maintain social distancing.

In addition to keeping tour group numbers to a maximum of six (this includes you, your tour guide and up to four guests from the same household or support bubble) and requesting evidence of a negative COVID test 24 hours prior to attending, we have also staggered the arrival times of our campus tours to avoid congestion and maintain social distancing the best we can.

What’s more, we also ask that on the day of the event, you and your guests:

  • Wear a face covering when entering and touring inside any location. Masks are optional for outdoor spaces
  • Maintain a two-metre distance from anyone outside of your household or support bubble (or one-metre plus where not possible)
  • Clean your hands regularly. Sanitising stations will be readily available

Please be aware that, to minimise transmission:

  • Unfortunately, we are unable to provide refreshments on the day
  • Merchandise will be provided in pre-packed bags that have been packed and prepared at least 72 hours in advance
