Throughout your university journey from level 3 till level 7, there are various opportunities for you to share your thoughts on your learning experience through surveys.
Foundation year and first year students are asked to provide feedback through the:
- Induction Survey
- First Year Experience Survey
- Module Evaluation Surveys
Second year students are invited to share their thoughts via the:
- LJMU Course Experience Survey
- Module Evaluation Surveys
Final year students can use their student voice to share their experiences through the:
- National Student Survey
- Module Evaluation Surveys
And finally, postgraduate students can provide feedback via the:
- Postgraduate Taught Experience Survey
- Module Evaluation Surveys
However, there are even more opportunities to use your student voice.
Below you can find a few tips on how you can provide a useful and constructive feedback that will help your lecturers to understand what went well and what they need to change to improve your and other students’ experience.
Give specific feedback
Try to describe a particular situation, action or behaviour when giving feedback.
Give accurate feedback
Avoid exaggeration, describe events as they happened.
Give fair feedback
It is okay to express your feelings but recognise that these are not necessarily universal.
Give balanced feedback
Highlight both positive and negative elements, and if applicable, what can be done to improve things.
Give kind feedback
By being specific, accurate, fair, and balanced, you can be constructive whilst being heard!
In short, when giving feedback, try to be:
Your views matter to us, which is why we do everything we can to make sure your feedback is used to improve student experience for you and your fellow students.
Once you told us about your experiences through one of the many opportunities to use your student voice, the Student Survey Team will collect and analyse the data.
Once analysed, anonymised reports are generated and shared with the module, programme, and school teams. Headlines are also shared with JMSU. You are able to see the results of the module evaluation survey via Canvas yourself as well.
Then, your feedback will be used to make improvements to your current and future years of study. This cycle continues each time you tell us about your experiences through one of the student voice opportunities.
If you are passionate about the student experience and want to contribute even more, there are some other opportunities to use your student voice.
- Become a course (or Faculty) rep! Look on the JMSU website to find more information and to register.
- Watch out for funded internships where you could make a difference to the student experience by collaborating with staff and other students.
- Take part in bespoke polls and quick surveys to help with the development of specific areas of the student experience.
