Thermal sensory function study

Can you help out in our study?

We are looking to recruit male participants aged 18-45 to take part in a study examining the effects of exercise on acute changes in thermal sensory function.

What's involved in the study?

If you take part, you’ll be invited to attend the laboratory at the Tom Reilly Building on four occasions in total, 3-7 days apart. One visit will involve a test of your aerobic fitness using an incremental cycling test. Two visits will involve cycle exercise at either 50% or 75% of your maximum heart rate for 30 minutes. A further visit will involve no exercise. Your thermal sensory function will be measured using a small heating device placed on a forearm and a calf before exercise, straight after and one hour after exercise. We do this by increasing the temperature of the small device and you will indicate using a mouse when you sense a change in temperature under the device and when the temperature becomes uncomfortable/painful under the device as well as rating various temperatures for heat and discomfort.

If you're interested in taking part, view the Participant Information Sheet. If you have any questions, please email Y.Kuca@2018.ljmu.ac.uk.
