Parent-child book sharing

Researchers at Liverpool John Moores University (LJMU) are seeking parents of preschool children who are interested in participating in a study of book sharing with their child.

What does taking part involve?

If you take part, you will be invited to visit the university with your preschool child at a time that is convenient for you. During the visit, you would be observed sharing different books with your child and asked to complete a short questionnaire about your book reading habits at home. The book sharing observation will take about 20 minutes with the total visit lasting approximately one hour.

Who can take part in the study?

Any parent can take part with their child if:

  • their child has not yet started Reception at the time of the visit
  • their child is three or four years old
  • the parent is 18 years old or older

Where does the study take place? Is it easy to get to?

If you participate you will be asked to visit the city campus of LJMU (Byrom Street, Liverpool, L3 3AF). This is in central Liverpool, close to the World Museum and Central Library. It is easily accessible by public transport and free parking is available on site for participants who prefer to travel by car.

A contribution to cover out of pocket expenses will be made by means of a shopping voucher to all participating parents. Further details can be found in the participant information sheet.
