CPD Public Health: Policy and Practice

This module introduces the concepts and strategies associated with the public health approach. The module reviews the historical development of public health as a political, social and economic response to human health and welfare concerns. In the second half of the module there is a focus on health inequalities; understanding their causation, how they manifest in populations and a critical evaluation of methods used to reduce them.

To enhance knowledge and understanding of population-based health issues and the public health response through policy and practice.

You will study the following topics:

• Principles and concepts of health and public health
• Key domains of public health and the public health approach
• A broad history of public health approaches: national and international perspectives
• Social determinants of health and health risk
• Public health governance and stewardship
• Public health policy and health in all policies
• Inequalities in health and strategies to reduce
• Public health ethics

There is two hours of classroom-based activity per week supported with additional online Canvas (VLE) based activity and learning.

To apply for this programme, you are required to complete an LJMU online application form. You will need to provide details of previous qualifications and a personal statement outlining why you wish to study this programme.

Assessment comprises of one short online test (30 minutes) and one report of 3,500 words.

This Continuing Professional Development can be studied within the MSc Public Health/Public Health (Addictions) award framework or as a single CPD.
