Go abroad

LJMU aims to make international opportunities available to every student. You may be able to study abroad as part of your degree at one of our 100+ partner universities across the world. Modules are designated core or optional in accordance with professional body requirements, as applicable, and LJMU’s Academic Framework Regulations. Whilst you are required to study core modules, optional modules provide you with an element of choice. Their availability may vary and will be subject to meeting minimum student numbers.

Preparing for Clinical Practice
40 credits

This module aims to develop a student's skills and competencies required to practice the clinical skills required on this programme

Academic Learning for Practice
20 credits

This module aims to equip the student with the knowledge and skills to develop personally, professionally and academically and to work effectively as part of the multi-professional team This module is designed to prepare students for academic learning and self reflection, through on line learning, research awareness and study skills practice. Students will be expected to study independently using directed materials from the module content.

Understanding the Role of Nursing Associate
20 credits

To introduce learners to the role of the Nursing Associate This module will provide foundation for the generic knowledge, skills and attributes required within a range of healthcare settings.

Biological Sciences
20 credits

This module provides an overview of the normal function of all body systems and their role in the maintenance of health. It also introduces the concepts of altered function and the biopsychosocial factors that can lead to ill health.

Effective Communication for Practice
20 credits

To facilitate effective communication using a range of strategies To utilise a range of communication methods to enhance collaboration and partnership working Utilising feedback to enhance communication Communication is a core skill for the Nursing Associate / Assistant Practitioner. This module will support learners to engage with therapeutic communication skills for practice. Students will be expected to study independently using directed materials from the module content.

Core modules

Developing Clinical Practice
40 credits

To equip the student to provide care and higher level clinical skills relevant to the Nursing Associate role, across a range of population groups.

Evidence Based Clinical Practice
20 credits

To provide the student with a grounding in the application of evidence based practice. To enable the student to enhance their personal and professional development through consideration of the organisation of inter-professional care and collaboration. This evidence based practice module will facilitate the students in examining current evidence base influencing practice in their specific areas. Students will be expected to study independently using directed materials from the module content.

Developing the Role of the Nursing Associate
20 credits

Enable the student to develop the skills to become a competent Nursing Associate in the provision of safe and effective care This module will build on the level four module Understanding the Role of the Nursing Associate will be expected to develop their skills, knowledge and professional values to becoming a NA. Students will be expected to study independently using directed materials from the module content.

Applied Biological Sciences
20 credits

To explore the biopsychosocial factors impacting upon acute and chronic conditions throughout the life span. To provide an enhanced knowledge of the pathophysiological basis of a range of acute and long term disorders This module will give the Student an increased knowledge of the complex nature of acute and long term conditions and their management throughout the lifespan. The content will reflect epidemiological data, relevant national strategies and guidelines. Students will be expected to study independently using directed materials from the module content.

Inter professional working in Health Care
20 credits

This module aims to help students gain a deeper understanding of their role in inter-professional care settings by exploring key concepts. It emphasizes the importance of teamwork in healthcare and encourages independent study using provided materials. Topics covered include person-centred care, autonomy, legal Acts, preventative health, end-of-life care, and more.

Qualification requirements

A levels

A minimum of 32 UCAS points which can be achieved through A level or BTEC National Extended Diploma. A minimum of two GCSE's which must include Maths and English at grade C or above OR level 2 Equivalency in Numeracy and Literacy.

Alternative qualifications considered

Applicants apply via their employer who will support the student to undertake this apprenticeship programme. All candidates are expected to demonstrate they meet the DOH health requirements; provide evidence of a Fitness to Work Health check, and Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) checks. In addition evidence of completion of the Core Skills Training Framework and mandatory core skills training. All candidates will undergo a joint interview using Values Based Recruitment methods with their employer and the university in line with the NHS Constitution. Recognition of prior learning is permitted where this can be mapped to the programme learning outcomes in line with University Recognition of Prior Learning policy and only up to a maximum of 50% of the programme. Claims must also map to the NMC Standards of Proficiency for Nursing Associates.
