Course aim

This course is designed to enable professionals to develop a critical appreciation of relevant ethical-legal skills and knowledge.

Course content

You will gain an overview of the English legal system, including legal aspects of consent, negligence, confidentiality and autonomy. You will consider:

  • traditional and contemporary ethical theory
  • moral decision making
  • articulating moral arguments
  • critiquing arguments
  • values in ethical decision-making

You will also examine current issues arising from contemporary and emerging NHS policies, clinical governance and evidence-based practice.

Teaching and learning

The programme is delivered via afternoon sessions at the University and some online lectures. Online and electronic resources will be provided via Canvas, LJMU's virtual learning environment, to support both timetabled sessions and independent study.

There is a requirement for full attendance for each of the sessions, both those delivered in class or via LJMU's technology enhanced learning environment.

Entry requirements

  • Undergraduate degree

    Applicants should hold a BA/BSc (Hons) degree in a relevant subject at a 2:2 level or higher. We also welcome applications from those who can demonstrate appropriate professional registration and/or experience in a relevant clinical specialty.
