This subject area has a reputation for curriculum innovation, with a number of successful curriculum enhancement bids, fantastic student internships and exceptional teaching, having received teaching excellence awards in recent years. All of our Education Studies courses come highly recommended, with student satisfaction rates at over 90% according to the National Student Survey 2015.

Teacher training

If you are interested in our initial teacher education programmes or professional development courses for teachers, LJMU has a well-established reputation in these areas. We deliver innovative approaches to initial teacher education; we are one of a small number of providers who offer a PGDE (Postgraduate Diploma in Education), which is awarded more Masters credits than a standard PGCE course for the same duration of study and cost. We're ranked fifth for undergraduate initial teacher education provision according to the Good Teacher Training Guide 2016. We offer a unique Learning Development Support programme for students who may not have formal qualifications, but who have a wealth of experience in the field, to obtain an undergraduate degree. There are two routes into teaching: University-led courses or School Direct. Find out more about these options from our Teacher Training section.

International Qualified Teacher Status (iQTS)

If you are a UK citizens working abroad or a non-UK citizen who wishes to begin teacher training outside of the UK, you may be interested in our iQTS initial teacher training. From February 2024 LJMU will be offering an iQTS course in Peru, Latin America.
