Course aim
The overall aim of this module is to equip the health care professional with a critical understanding of the aetiology, presentation and impact of congenital heart disease on children and their families.
Course content
Developmental anatomy and physiology of the cardiovascular system - including embryological development of congenital heart defects (CHD)
Pathophysiology and management of different congenital heart conditions
Assessment and therapy strategies to minimise the long-term effects of CHD
Healthcare and psycho-social implications - including aspects of the transition from paediatrics to adult care
Patient perspective
Ethical issues
Teaching and learning
Mix of online and in person teaching.
Option for remote learning available with prior discussion.
Entry requirements
1. Currently working as a registered professional in a relevant area of practice.
2. Ideally candidates will have studied at degree (level 6) however if this is not the case the applicants’ skills and professional experience will be discussed to allow the module leader to assess capability to study at level 7.
