CPD Managing Critical Care
Level 7 (postgraduate), 10 Credits
Targeted at registered clinicians, this course will:
- build upon your ability to recognise and manage situations and patients deemed as ‘critical’
- develop your background knowledge of the topic of critical care
- give you a sound theory-base from which to enhance your existing knowledge and clinical ability to work effectively in the critical setting
During this course, you will examine:
- critical care as a concept
- models of critical care
- Non-Technical Skill (NTS) appreciation
- clinical liaison and team management
- critical care and stress management
- managing the medical emergency in the out of hospital setting
- managing the traumatic emergency in the out of hospital setting
- debriefing critical incidents
Teaching and learning
The course is delivered over 14 weeks. You will be expected to attend the University each week for half a day. Online and electronic resources will be provided to support timetabled sessions and independent study via Canvas, the University's virtual learning environment.
There is a requirement for full attendance for each of the sessions, whether they are in class or through the technology enhanced learning environment.
In order to be considered for this Managing Critical Care module, you must have:
- current registration as a healthcare professional
- current employment with an NHS Trust
- adegree or equivalent (demonstrated through APeL - in accordance with LJMU regulations)
You will also need a good standard of IT skills in order to engage effectively with online learning resources.
Assessment will take the form of a critical report.
This Continuing Professional Development programme can be studied within the MSc Advanced Healthcare Practice (Clinical) award framework or as a single CPD.
